After his medical and post-graduate degree in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the State University in Milan, in 1982 he obtained a Master of Science (MSPH) in Epidemiology in the USA. After completing his training, he worked for four years as a research scientist at the National Cancer Institute in Milano before being recruited at the New York University School of Medicine, New York, USA, where he remained for thirty years rapidly progressing in the academic ranks as a clinical scientist in environmental medicine and subsequently as Professor of cancer epidemiology within the Department of Gynecology and the Cancer Center. For many years, he collaborated with the research Unit of Nutrition of the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) in Lyon, France, and served as Professor of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. During his long academic tenure in the USA has served in many federal and international scientific committees and is author of 200 scientific research publications on the role of nutrition, hormones and environment in human health.
Upon his voluntary return to his native Italy, since 2014 he has devoted his time and energy to the task of translating complex information on health and nutrition into terms communicable to the public. He lives in Milano where he currently practices functional medicine, a clinical branch of preventive and nutritional medicine still relatively unknown in Italy .
